Meet Beatrice Sonkaliey – Creator of Afroshop
Growing up in Liberia and later immigrating to the U.S., I carry with me the vibrant traditions, flavors, and connections that define “home.” For many of us living far from our roots, reconnecting with heritage—whether through a cherished recipe, a handwoven craft, or the warmth of shared stories—shouldn’t feel distant or out of reach. It should be as simple as finding what you love and bringing it to your doorstep through the click of a button.
This belief led to Afroshop. While balancing full-time work and my Computer Science studies, I saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between longing and belonging. What began as a capstone project evolved into something deeper: a platform designed to celebrate African craftsmanship, amplify Black entrepreneurs, and make culturally rooted goods accessible to everyone—no matter where life has taken them.
Today, Afroshop is more than a marketplace. It’s a community where immigrants find comfort in familiar flavors, where artisans share their craft with pride, and where entrepreneurs across the diaspora can grow authentically. From pantry staples that recreate grandma’s cooking to handcrafted decor that tells a story, every item is a thread in the tapestry of our shared heritage.
We’re here to make “home” feel closer, one carefully curated product at a time.
